Mere Humdum Mere Dost – Complete Story Overview
Mere Humdum Mere Dost follows Aiman Taufeeq, a young woman living with her ailing mother Zainab and carrying suppressed anger towards her father Taufeeq, after his separation from Zainab and remarriage to Almas. Into this strained household world comes Haider Masood, her father’s friend and business partner, a gentleman who treats Aiman with a patience and respect she is not used to.
The novel’s strength is its slow burn. Haider notices Aiman’s interest in economics, encourages her advanced studies and helps her grow into herself, and friendship deepens into something neither of them planned. Farhat Ishtiaq, often called the queen of romance, builds her heroes this way, through attention and decency rather than display.
The story was later adapted as a television drama that first aired on Urdu 1, directed by Shehzad Kashmiri and produced by Momina Duraid, bringing Aiman and Haider’s story to a wide television audience.
For readers, the novel’s appeal is its moral and emotional clarity. It is about friendship, trust, personal growth and the way a good companion can change a life, which is exactly what its title promises.
